Heat deadly for 1, health agency says

— At least one Arkansan has died from the heat this summer, the first one reported this year, an Arkansas Department of Health spokesman said Thursday.

The Health Department would not release the age, sex or location of the victim because of patient confidentiality, spokesman Ed Barham said.

The department ruled the death as heat-related after receiving the victim’s death certificate Thursday, he said.

Temperatures remained in the upper 90s to low 100s this week and were expected to remain above the mid-90s through the weekend.

Last year, seven people died from the heat, Barham said.
