LETTERS

— Keep moving ahead

We read about the oil spill, and other than it messing up our vacations on the Gulf Coast, here in Little Rock we are not affected.

But my husband is a captain in theU.S. Coast Guard Reserves and he leaves shortly for Louisiana to help with that oil spill. I’m not going to see him for 60 days while I continue to recoverfrom a broken arm. That’s my boohoo for now.

For those folks whose livelihoods have been completely changed by this awful oil spill, my boohoo is nothing. My prayer for these people is that they think outside the box, build a better mousetrap and walk in a forward direction with their lives. And the sooner the better, since this oil spill is a sad, ongoing situation.

It seems to me that the Coast Guard is being blamed for some of the oil spill problems. I guess the Obama administration has to blame somebody else since folks are getting tired of his blaming former President George W. Bush for it.

Please know that the Coast Guard will do everything it can to help these people. There are many men and women in the Coast Guard doing this every day, all the time.

Message was timely

Re the Voices cartoon of two veterans carrying a casket from a veteran’s cemetery: I thought it was very apropos. A great number in our area condemn anything different from their perspective or belief and would uphold exactly what the cartoon depicts. Shame on them.

The two letter writers [who have complained about the cartoon] are completely correct on one thing: We should be grateful for all our veterans, white, black, brown, male, female, and any belief they may have.
