Obama, Brit leader: Afghanistan in critical period

President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron say it is critical to get the Afghanistan war right this year.

Speaking to reporters Saturday after their first meeting since Cameron took power, the two leaders said their nations have the right strategy in Afghanistan. Obama said at a meeting of industrial and developing nations in Toronto that “this period that we are in is going to be critical.”

Cameron said “we’re giving it everything we can to get it right this year.”

With a resurgent Taliban and major U.S.-led offensives planned, the nine-year-old war is considered at a tipping point.
