Conway Regional names new diabetes educator

— Rhonda Monfee, a registered clinical dietitian, was named the new diabetes education coordinator for the Conway Regional Health System.

The diabetes educator’s role is to provide tools through education that create a productive wellness lifestyle to assist individuals in managing diabetes, a chronic medical condition.

Monfee has been a diabetes educator for the past seven years.

“It’s my passion,” Monfee said. “A large part of diabetes management is from a food perspective, and that is very helpful with my background as a clinical dietitian.” Jacquelyn Wilkerson, director of Women’s and Infants’ Services, had positive things to say about Monfee.

“We feel Rhonda’s expertise and knowledge will be a valuable asset while participating in the education and care of these patients.” Wi l k e r s on n ot e d t h at Monfee is continuing Conway Regional’s ongoing goals of enhancing services to diabetes patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

The program includes outpatient classes and a support group that are designed toteach people how to manage diabetes.

Monfee is also a freelance writer for Arkansas newspapers on wellness, motivation and diabetes. She has been involved with AETN’s wellness segments on “Fighting Fat in Arkansas.” Tuesday and Thursday classes will be held weekly, and Saturday classes will be held monthly.
