Marvel editor calls pair artistic ‘forces of nature’

— Marvel comics writer and editor Mark Paniccia says Mitch and Elizabeth Breitweiser of Little Rock are so good at what they do that it hardly matters they’re also one of the industry’s mere handful of comics-creating couples.

“There really aren’t a lot,” Paniccia says from Marvel’s headquarters in New York. “But what’s really amazing is the amount of talent those two have. On their own, they’re forces of nature, but together? All I can say is comics are lucky to have them!”

Mitch’s job, drawing, makes him the comic-book equivalent of a movie star. Elizabeth’s digital coloring adds the flash-wow special effects the crowd pays to see.

“In recent years, as the technology has grown and colorists can do more with rendering and special effects, their role in creating art for readers to enjoy has grown leaps and bounds,” Paniccia says. “Having a good colorist on a book is essential to the comic-book experience.

“Elizabeth knows all this and more. She’s an amazing artist who knows how to tell a story with color, and brings the reader into the environment like no one else.”

MEANTIME, BACK AT THE LAB -

“For the time being, I am content to work solely in the color department,” an “immensely rewarding job,” Elizabeth says. She expects to keep testing her talent, though.

“I would love to venture out into children’s illustration one day,” she says, and the couple’s two Persian cats just might turn up in “a ridiculousillustrated adventure.”

AND IN A DIFFERENT UNIVERSE -

Another place to find Mitch’s work is at whoarethe futurists.com, an online comic he and collaborator Patrick Stiles describe as “an epic tome about the quest for eternal life gone horribly wrong.”
