Police beat

— Shooting wounds mother, daughter.

Police were investigating a Saturday night doubleshooting in central Little Rock that sent a mother and daughter to the hospital with gunshot wounds, police said.

About 9:50 p.m., officers were called to a small house near the intersection of South Cross and West 24th streets where they found the two women, whose names weren’t released, police said. They were taken to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center where their conditions weren’t available Saturday evening.

Police at the scene took one man into custody for questioning, but no arrests were made.

The man became combative with police when asked to give a statement, saying “I was inside. All I heard was the gunshots. Boom. Boom. Boom.” He was handcuffed and led away.

About 20 minutes after the shooting, a shirtless child could be seen through the home’s glass storm door. A short time later while detectives photographed the home’s porch, family members arrived to pick up the children inside the house. Three children were led out followed by an infant in a blue onesie carried by a police officer.

A girl appearing to be the eldest then was escorted around a pile of toys in the yard and under the yellow tape. None of the children appeared to be injured.
