Mr. Happy gets guests hopping at fashionable Arkansas Rep event

— And a rollicking good time was had by all during the fifth annual Passion for Fashion: Underneath It All.

The fundraiser for the Arkansas Repertory Theatre took place June 14 at the Rep. During a preevent reception, guests enjoyed a cocktail buffet in the lobby and were greeted by co-chairmen Masami and Dee Fiser, event creator Barbara Graves and hostesses that included Mitzi Choate and Elizabeth Small.

Just prior to the program, Mr. Happy lead singer Scott Hairston - backed by band members that included Tim Reed and Eric Ellis - got the crowd pumped with ’70s and ’80s funk/R&B hits, including “Sir Duke,” “Play That Funky Music,” “Let’s Get It On,” “Flashlight” and “Atomic Dog.” Accompanied by dancers, Mr. Happy then provided a soundtrack of past hip-hop hits for an eclectic troupe of models who showcased swimwear, leisure wear, sleepwear and dressand-hat ensembles while hostJason Harper offered humorous commentary.

Other highlights of the show included performances by cast members from the Rep production of Smokey Joe’s Cafe, singing Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller hits “I’m a Woman” and “Love Potion No. 9.” A special treat came with Alltrinna Grayson’s performance of “Fools Fall in Love.”

Joining in the fun and festivity were Lori and Robb Graves; Dorothy and Sean Graves; Sheila Glasscock; Kathleen Wilson; Deborah Dawson and her mother, Valerie Pruitt; Nicole Reed; Cynthia Ellis; Leslie Harper; Larry Choate; Darlene and Joe Okeke; Nikki Smith; Hannah Miller; Holly Fish; Steve Bates; Fran Carter; and Yoni and Michael Johnson.
