2 killed in wreck near Dardanelle

— Two people were killed and five were injured in an automobile collision early Sunday on Arkansas 27, about 1 mile south of Dardanelle, the Arkansas State Police reported.

Leopoldo Enriquez, 18, and Carla Guevera, 16, both of Danville, were in a Dodge van that was struck almost head-on by another vehicle at 1:48 a.m., according to a state police report.

The van was headed south when the other vehicle, a northbound Ford Explorer, crossed the centerline, the report says.

Enriquez, the van’s driver, was killed, as was Guevera. Passengers Blanca Guevera, 17, and Erica Rivera, 18, both of Danville, and Edgae Flores, 23, of Dardanelle were taken to area hospitals, the report says.

The Explorer’s driver, Ezequiel Martinez, 31, of Russellville was also taken to a hospital, as was passenger Jose Juan Salcedo, 34, also of Russellville.

Information on the condition of the injured was unavailable Sunday.
