Union says Air Force wrong to privatize food jobs

— Dozens of picketers were out in force Monday at Elmendorf Air Force Base to protest a move by the military to privatize food service jobs.

The American Federation of Government Employees says more than 300 food service workers will be affected by the move toward privatization being tried at six Air Force bases in Alaska, California, Arkansas, Washington state and Florida.

John Gage, the union’s national president, says the Air Force has provided no justification for putting hundreds of people out of work. He says if the program is adopted nationwide 4,000 food service workers at dozens of Air Force bases could lose their jobs.
