EL DORADO — Authorities in south Arkansas are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Union County jail.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Clark Burton says 33-year-old Gerardo Balbuena has been missing since last Wednesday when he drove away from a mowing detail in a county work truck. The truck was later found in El Dorado.
Police say Balbuena was arrested by El Dorado police for misdemeanor traffic violations and later admitted he is in the country illegally. He was being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
Additional charges of felony theft and second-degree escape have now been filed against him.
