Deputies’ patrol cars pelted with fireworks

— A North Little Rock teenager was charged with aggravated assault after Pulaski County sheriff ’s deputies say he hit a patrol car with a “large firework” that bounced off the hood and exploded against the windshield.

According to an arrest report, Don Green, 17, of 210 E. 54th St. was walking north on Mitchell Avenue, near Old Jacksonville Highway, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday as Deputy Chris Cone’s patrol car approached him from behind. Green turned and threw the firework, hitting the car, and then ran north on Mitchell and east on Daffodil Street before escaping through the parking lot of St. Joe Baptist Church.

As Cone searched the area, his supervisor Sgt. Rick Howard’s vehicle was also hit with a firework on Mitchell Avenue. While searching the area, another deputy broadcast that his vehicle had also been hit by a firework on Mitchell Avenue.

A short time later, Cone found a group of four people in the driveway of 819 Brownlee Ave. and recognized Green as the person who had thrown the firework at his car. A search of Green’s backpack turned up several fireworks.

When Howard arrived at the scene, he observed 16-year-old Billy Trent attempting to hide another firework under a car. Both teens were detained. Trent was later released to his guardian, and Green was charged and transported to the county’s juvenile intake office Tuesday.
