Green Party certified to appear on ballot

— The Green Party has been cleared to appear on the ballot in November in Arkansas.

Arkansas Secretary of State Charlie Daniels on Wednesday certified the party’s petitions to form a political party and have its candidates appear on the Nov. 2 general election ballot.

Under state law, third parties must submit petitions from at least 10,000 registered voters to appear on the ballot. The Green Party submitted its petition on June 17, and Daniels’ office verified 11,505 valid signatures submitted.

The party is challenging the state’s requirements for third parties to appear on the ballot in a federal lawsuit.

To keep a guaranteed spot on the ballot, parties must get at least 3 percent of the vote in the most recent presidential or gubernatorial election to retain a spot on the ballot.
