Hogs’ Cox, Eibner add All-America honors

Arkansas’ Zack Cox and Brett Eibner were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division I All-America teams released Tuesday.

Cox, a sophomore who had a school-record .429 batting average to lead the SEC, was the second-team third baseman, while Eibner, a junior who led Arkansas with 22 home runs and 71 RBI, was named to the third team as a utility player.

Cox and Eibner also were on the All-South Region first team, while sophomore teammate Drew Smyly earned second-team all-region honors as a starting pitcher.

Cox was a first-round selection by the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball’s June draft, while Eibner (Kansas City Royals) and Little Rock’s Smyly (Detroit Tigers) went in the second round.

Hot Springs golfer wins match play title

Tim Zimmerebner of Hot Springs won the South Central PGA Senior Match Play Championship, defeating Michael Gowens of Purcell, Okla., 2 and 1 Tuesday in Sapulpa, Okla.

Zimmerebner advanced to the final at Clary Fields Golf Club after his opponent in the semifinals, Andy Schaben of Luther, Okla., withdrew because of injury.

In the second round, Zimmerebner took a 3-and-2 victory over Patrick Tubach of Tulsa.
