Pulaski County Special School District reopens search for chief

The Pulaski County Special School District School Board voted 6-1 Monday night to reopen the search for a permanent superintendent.

The board previously culled a field of 20 applicants to two finalists: Acting Superintendent Rob McGill and South Carolina administrator Vashti Washington.

On Friday, Washington withdrew from consideration to take another job, leaving McGill as the sole remaining candidate.

School Board President Tim Clark said after the vote that there was not majority support on the board to offer McGill the fulltime post. That left the board with no choice but to reopen the process.

McGill said after the vote that he was “disappointed.” He said he didn’t know whether he would reapply for the job. His existing contract calls for him to remain acting superintendent into the summer.
