Eight of 31 people who were recently indicted on federal drug and firearm charges were rounded up Wednesday in Prairie and Lonoke counties in a multi-agency effort dubbed Operation Evil Eye.
A 23-count indictment naming the 31 defendants was handed up last week by a federal grand jury in Little Rock but remained sealed until Wednesday’s arrests.
All but two of the defendants are charged with conspiring to possess methamphetamine and marijuana with intent to distribute in central Arkansas. A conviction on that charge, when more than 500 grams of a methamphetamine mixture is involved, carries a potential penalty of 10 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $4 million.
