West Memphis scores NEA grant

— Main Street West Memphis was recently selected by the National Endowment for the Arts to receive $22,000 in grant funding designated for improvements to rural areas, a news release said.

The grant will fund a three-day workshop later this year as part of Your Town: The Citizens’ Institute on Rural Design. The leadership initiative funded by the artsendowment is targeted to respond to the design needs of small towns and rural areas.

“This workshop will enable us to bring together and mobilize the current and emerging leaders of our community, connecting a variety of efforts and developing consensus,” Main Street West Memphis director Leigh Ann Hastings said in the news release.

Several initiatives are under way in the area, including the development of a business/kitchen incubator in the historic Broadway District, the launch of a new Web site, completion of a master facade program and continuing efforts to highlight the city’s rich musical heritage.
