LITTLE ROCK Investigators have pinpointed the origin of a fire that destroyed several units in a Conway apartment building Saturday, but the cause remains under investigation.
Conway Fire Department Division Chief Kenny Wiedower said samples from the blaze at 1405 South Donaghey Avenue were sent to the state Crime Lab for analysis, a step performed in most fire investigations. He said it was too soon to say whether the fire was accidental or intentionally set.
"We're not ruling out anything at this time," Wiedower said.
The blaze appears to have started in a back bedroom of one of the destroyed units.
Firefighters were called to the complex about 8:30 p.m. Two units were completely destroyed by fire damage while a third is considered a possible total loss. A fourth unit had some damage, Wiedower said.
Officials initially evacuated all of the surrounding units, displacing 22 people. By today, all but the five residents in the four damaged units had been allowed back into the structure.
Wiedower said the resident in the apartment where the fire started suffered possible burn injuries. He did not know the severity of those injuries.
