DeLay backs Bledsoe runoff bid for House seat

Former state Sen. Gunner DeLay is backing Cecile Bledsoe’s bid for the Republican nomination for the 3rd Congressional District.

DeLay had narrowly finished in third place in the eight-person primary, but said Thursday he didn’t believe there would be enough absentee and provisional ballots cast to make up the difference. DeLay said he decided to endorse Bledsoe because he believed she was the most conservative candidate.

Bledsoe is a state senator from Rogers. She faces Rogers Mayor Steve Womack in the June 8 runoff.

Democrat David Whitaker won his party’s nomination in Tuesday’s primary without an opponent.
