Man convicted of ’80s attacks returning to prison

— A 55-year-old Fort Smith man convicted of rape in connection with a series of attacks on women in 1982 now will return to prison after being convicted on a drug charge.

A jury found Charles Isaac Wilson Jr. guilty of delivery of cocaine and a Sebastian County judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison, along with a 20-year suspended sentence.

On Wednesday, Wilson acknowledged being convicted in two cases associated with the 1982 attacks. But he denied his guilt, saying there was no evidence against him in either case. He served 24 years in prison and was released in 2006.

He also denied his guilt in the drug case, saying a confidential informant had “played” him after borrowing money from Wilson. Prosecutors say Wilson sold about 0.14 grams of cocaine for $100 to the informant in April 2009.
