Rogers couple to give $3 million to eye institute

— A $3 million gift by a Rogers couple to the Jones Eye Institute will go toward the creation of a genetics center named in their honor.

The Leland and Betty Tollett Center for Retinal and Ophthalmic Genetics Disorders will include diagnostic and treatment space, low vision and rehabilitation space and clinical research and database facilities.

Also, research already conducted at the eye institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences will be expanded to include basic genetics.

Leland Tollett is a former CEO and chairman of the board of Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale. He has served on the eye institute’s advisory board for five years.
