LITTLE ROCK A 21-year-old is accused of holding a man inside a Garland County house at gunpoint Sunday and then shooting him when he moved to escape.
Kelly Oliver was arrested on charges of criminal attempt at 1st degree murder and kidnapping. Bond has not been set.
Authorities say Oliver was at the Clear Creek Road home of his girlfriend's grandmother about 12:30 p.m. when he took Robert Ward hostage at gunpoint.
Ward was reportedly checking on the property while Oliver's girlfriend and her grandmother were out of town together. Investigators are unsure why Oliver was there.
Oliver was holding Ward at gunpoint inside the house when Ward attempted to get away by jumping through a window, Garland County Sheriff's Department Lt. James Martin said in a statement. Oliver purportedly shot Ward at least once during the escape.
Ward was taken in for surgery at a local hospital, where he was listed Monday in serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit..
Oliver fled into a wooded area near the residence and later turned himself in to the sheriff's department SWAT team, authorities said.
