ARTY AWARDS Arts organization crafts awards for state honorees

— Handmade vessels of native Arkansas wood were given as awards Nov. 10 at the Governor’s Arts Awards luncheon at the Peabody Little Rock hotel.

Made by Joe Doster of Harrison, the works of art were given to honorees by the Arkansas Arts Council in recognition of outstanding contributions to the arts in Arkansas.

Honorees included Robert Ginsburg of Fayetteville for arts community development, Elaine and Dr. Neale Bartee of Jonesboro for arts in education, and Elise Roenigk and her late husband, Marty, owners of 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa in Eureka Springs, for corporate sponsorship of the arts. Kelly Mulhollan and Donna Stjerna, who perform as Still on the Hill received the folk life award, Virgil “Spot” Daniel of Prescott received the individual artist awardand Marilyn Patterson of Fort Smith was recognized for her patronage. Gene Hatfield of Conway was given the lifetime achievement award and David Peterson of Greenbrier received the judges’ special recognition award.

Gov. Mike Beebe, Arkansas Arts Council Chairman Garbo Hearne and the council’s executive director Joy Pennington presented the awards.
