Director, writer to conduct screenwriting workshop

— Gordy Hoffman, founder and director of the widely respected BlueCat Screenwriting Competition, will conduct a workshop titled “Starting and Finishing Your Screenplay” for both established and aspiring screenwriters from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 25, at the Landers Theater building, 325 E. Main in downtown Batesville.

Morning coffee will be provided. There will be a one-hour lunch break.

Hoffman has written a number of screenplays, including Love Liza, directed by Todd Louiso and starring the writer’s brother, Philip Seymour Hoffman. The screenplay won the Waldo Salt Award at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival.

Hoffman was also chosen for the Fox Searchlab, a director development program at Fox Searchlight, where he wrote and directed three short films — The Woman Who Stopped Seeing Movies, Jack Signs and Untitled. He made his feature directorial debut with his own script, A Coat of Snow, which premiered at the 2005 Locarno International Film Festival. The film also screened at the Milan Film Festival, had its North American premiere at Arclight in Hollywood and won the Domani Vision Award at VisionFest, held at the Tribeca Cinemas in New York.

Hoffman taught screenwriting at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and has conducted a variety of screenwriting workshops around the country, as well as in Poland and the United Kingdom.

Tuition for the workshop is $50 or $35 for 2011 Ozark Foothills FilmFest Screenplay Competition entrants.

Enrollment is limited to 15, so early registration is encouraged. Entrants may bring a copy of a completed screenplay or a work in progress.

Also bring writing materials and/or a laptop computer. Send name, contact information and workshop tuition before Tuesday, March 1, to Screenwriting Workshop, Ozark Foothills FilmFest, 195 Peel Road, Locust Grove, AR 72550.
