— 100 YEARS AGO Nov. 21, 1910

The Dodridge ditcher, the machine which the Iron Mountain is using to improve the drainage from its roadway, is now located between Chidester and Sayre on the El Dorado district of the road. The machine is said to be a wonderful invention and is operated entirely by compressed air. It digs a ditch of uniform depth alongside the track on either side and makes it further away from the rails than ever has been done by any previous method.

50 YEARS AGO Nov. 21, 1960

For once in your life - don’t pay any attention to signs. Speed limit signs have been installed on the highway from Little Rock to Benton listing the new interstate maximum speed as 70 m.p.h. and the minimum as 45. But until the Arkansas Highway Department announces that these speeds are effective officially the maximum speed will remain at 60. State police said today that the speed limit hasn’t changed and will not until the highway department completes installationof the new signs.

25 YEARS AGO Nov. 21, 1985

Fourteen cars of a Missouri Pacif ic Railroad freight train derailed Wednesday morning northwest of the state Capitol, near the Train Station at West Markham and Victory Streets. There were no injuries, fires or chemical leaks, Walter Fussner, a spokesman for Union Pacific systems at St. Louis, said.

10 YEARS AGO Nov. 21, 2000

Central Arkansas turned out by the thousands this weekend at ShareFest 2000 to give of their time and money. And share they did.When it was all said and done, 26 public schools in three local school districts had been spruced up with a school uniform fund for families too poor to buy uniforms created in each district, and five local agencies each received tens of thousands of dollars. On Saturday, more than 100 churches worked on community projects - 40 of them focusing on the public schools in their communities.
