Quake near Guy a magnitude 3.9

— The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 3.9-magnitude earthquake 2 miles east of Guy on Saturday.

The report is preliminary, but if it holds up, it would the strongest to hit the area this month.

On Oct. 15, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake hit the area, the strongest reported since September, records show.

The earthquake Saturday was one of about 16 reported, with others ranging from magnitudes of 2.0 to 2.7.

The depth of Saturday’s earthquake reached 2.9 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said. More than 50 people reported feeling the quake in Greenbrier, Quitman and Mount Pleasant. One person in Indianapolis, 736 miles away, reported feeling it, the survey reported.

A police dispatcher in Greenbrier said no damage had been caused by the earthquakes.
