It is possible that Argenta may be annexed to Little Rock. A petition and an ordinance introduced into the City Council at their meeting last night, met with the unanimous approval of that body. The documents were introduced by City Attorney Harry T. Hale, and the petitions were signed by 76 Argenta electors and 72 qualified voters of Little Rock.

50 YEARS AGO Nov. 22, 1960

Public education campaigns with the theme that people who become mentally ill are “just like other people” have added to problems surrounding return of psychiatric patients to the community after hospitalization, an Arizona psychiatrist said here yesterday. Dr. Warren Williams of Tucson told a seminar on rehabilitation of the mentally ill in the University Medical Center Auditorium that such a slogan implies that the same values, expectations and demands can be applied to these people that are applied to others.

25 YEARS AGO Nov. 22, 1985

About 75 people marched from the First Commercial Building along Capitol Avenue to the state Capitol steps Thursday at a brisk pace that would have made a cigarette smoker start huffing for air. Most of the crowd carried red balloons and signs that warned against the dangers of smoking. They were observing the great American Smokeout, organized by the American Cancer Society to urge smokers to kick their habit for at least 24 hours.

10 YEARS AGO Nov. 22, 2000

Central Arkansas Transit Authority officials said they hope the state will chip in to help get the River Rail streetcar project rolling. The eightstation, twin-cities project, designed to shuttle passengers between the downtowns of Little Rock and North Little Rock, is budgeted to cost $12.3 million. CATA is $600,000 short. At CATA’s monthly board meeting Tuesday, Executive Director Keith Jones said he is optimistic that the state Highway and Transportation Department will dole out some money for the project.
