— Star rookie loses, finds ear jewel

Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant lost more than the football on an incomplete passing play against the New York Giants last Sunday.

The star rookie also lost one of his diamond earrings after falling hard while trying to catch a 48-yard pass from quarterback John Kitna in the fourth quarter.

“I really was a little worried,” Bryant said about the missing stud, reportedly worth $50,000.

Luckily for him, a security guard found the earring and returned it to Bryant after the game, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Bryant gave the guard a “big thank you.”

Cam Hutchinson of the Saskatoon StarPhoenix admitted he wasn’t surprised the earring fell out.

“What surprised me was seeing Kobe Bryant on the field What a turkey

According to police in Lincoln, Neb., 20-year-old league bowler Matthew Lafon went over the line when he used pepper spray on two opponents after zapping one of them with a stun gun.

The man accused of misdemeanor assault told police he was defending himself.

According to police reports, two teams were trash-talking during a league match at Sun Valley Lanes on Thursday night.

“But everything was friendly,” one of the bowlers told police, according to the report.

If that’s friendly, angry must be a real sight.

Scoreboard folly

One of college basketball’s most underrated in-state rivalries became a little more hostile Wednesday after a student employee put up a boastful message on the post game scoreboard.

As fans filed out of the Marriott Center after BYU’s 78-72 victory over visiting Utah State, a message flashed on the scoreboard that read “Dear UT St., Enjoy The LOSS Your Big Brother BYU.”

BYU issued the following statement on Thursday apologizing for the scoreboard message and insisting that the student acted without the knowledge of anyone from the Cougars athletic department.

“... The university is extremely sorry for this message, which does not reflect the sentiment of BYU Athletics or the university.

The apology continued, “This matter has been addressed with the student, who regrets his action.”

Well, now he does.
