DeLay case jury reports progress

— Jurors in the money-laundering trial of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay ended their first full day of deliberations without a verdict.

The panel will resume its work today. Deliberations began Monday.

Jurors seemed to struggle in their deliberations Tuesday, asking for legal definitions that had the judge saying they were not on the right track. But jurors told the judge they were making progress.

Prosecutors allege that DeLay helped illegally funnel $190,000 in corporate campaign donations to Texas legislative races in 2002 in a move that ultimately helped send more Republicans to Congress.

The former congressman is charged with money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
