GIRLS: Brown makes her move late

— If Kayla Brown seemed to be out of control late in Tuesday night’s game with Little Rock Hall, it’s because she was.

Brown, a senior guard for North Little Rock, hit a spinning layup with 1:20 remaining, effectively putting the finishing touches on a 50-44 victory for the Lady Charging Wildcats.

“I was pretty much falling down,” said Brown, who had 3 three-pointers and finished with a team-high 18 points. “I knew I had to put up some kind of shot.”

Brown drove into the left side of the lane and her falling down effort banked in and all but ended Hall’s upset bid.

“That was a freaking unbelievable move,” North Little Rock Coach Daryl Fimple said. “She got in there and kind of figured out, ‘Hey, this is what I got to do to score.’ We were very lucky.”

Three nights after North Little Rock had defeated Hall 63-45 in the final of the Wendy’s Invitational, the Lady Warriors (2-2) proved to be a little more feisty.

Sophomore Tyler Scaife scored a game-high 21 points, had 5 assists and 4 steals to lead Hall.

Back-to-back baskets by Scaife and Jasmine Ford tied the game at 41 with 5:33 to play, but the Lady Warriors missed their next eight field goal attempts and did not score again until Ford’s free throw with 15.4 seconds to play.

By then, North Little Rock had built its lead to 50-42.Brown had four of her 18 points during the deciding run.

“We knew this was going to be a tougher game than Saturday,” Brown said. “We were trying so hard that it was almost too much for us. The key was being able to calm down and adjust.”

The Lady Charging Wildcats, who extended their winning streak to 36 games, have the next 12 days off.

Xena King, Jerrica James and Lexus Williams all added eight points for North Little Rock. Dominique Miller scored eight for Hall.
