— TITANS Young snubbed

Tennessee Coach Jeff Fisher says though he had an assistant tell Vince Young not to attend a team meeting, the quarterback has not been banned from the team’s headquarters.

Fisher said Tuesday night on his weekly radio show that he looked for Young in the locker room before the team meeting. Fisher says he couldn’t find Young, so he sent an assistant coach to tell Young he was not welcome in the meeting for “obvious reasons.”

Fisher says he didn’t want Young in Monday’s meeting because he had to update the Titans (5-5) on the quarterback’s situation. Young, who had tossed his pads into the stands on Sunday, had a heated exchange with Fisher before Young stormed out of the stadium.

Young needs season-ending surgery on his right thumb and was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.

GIANTS Clayton signed

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The injury-ravaged New York Giants have signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Michael Clayton.

The Giants confirmed the signing late Tuesday night and announced they had waived tight end Jake Ballard.

New York lost star receiver Steve Smith to a partial tear in his pectoral muscle on Nov. 11 and backup Ramses Barden to a broken ankle three days later. Leading receiver Hakeem Nicks is going to be sidelined about three weeks after needing a surgical procedure Monday to relieve pressure in his right leg. He was hurt Sunday against Philadelphia.

Clayton has been playing for Omaha in the United Football League. He had 16 catches in 13 games with the Bucs last season.

BROWNS

Costanzo goes on IR

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Browns have placed linebacker Blake Costanzo, one of their top special teams players, on injured reserve.

Costanzo injured his groin during Sunday’s 24-20 loss at Jacksonville. He has been a mainstay on the Browns’ kick and punt coverage units.

BUCCANEERS DT Sims cut

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released veteran defensive tackle Ryan Sims.

The ninth-year pro was let go Tuesday after being inactive the past three games because of a knee injury. He made six tackles while starting one of six games he appeared in this season.

Sims was a first-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2002. The Bucs acquired him in a trade in 2007. His most productive year with Tampa Bay was 2009, when he started 16 games and had 48 tackles and one sack.
