Watson wins Alexander runoff

— Regina Watson won 81 percent of the 63 votes Tuesday during a runoff election for Alexander Ward 4, Position 2 alderman.

With both precincts reporting, the unofficial results were: Regina Watson . . . . . . . . . . . 51 Robin Altman . . . . . . . . . . . . 12 In Saline County 62 people voted, while only one person went to the polls in Pulaski County for the alderman race.

Watson and Altman ran as independents.

During the Nov. 2 election Watson had 151 votes while Altman had 147. Monroe Cates also ran during the first election, but with 135 votes wasn’t eligible for the runoff.

After learning she had won, Watson, who said she didn’t campaign, was pleased with the results.

She said one of the projects she’d like to get started on is a mentor and tutoring program for children.

“I have three kids, and I want Alexander to be family friendly,” Watson said. “A lot of parents don’t have time to tutor their kids, we need the older kids to help the younger ones that need it.”

Altman could not be reached Tuesday.
