Madrigal Feaste offers food, entertainment

— The Southside High School Choir Department in Batesville will present its 16th annual Ye Olde Christmas Madrigal Feaste on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11. The Royal Singers will host an elegant evening of songs and a feaste reminiscent of banquets in the time of Queen Elizabeth I.

Guests will enjoy the Wassail Bowl, the Procession of the Boar’s Head, French onion soup, beef tenderloin, green bean bundles, twice-baked potatoes, whole loaves of bread and flaming dessert, served by English wenches and pages.

“The Southside cafeteria staff works hard to make sure that the meal is of high quality,” said Jeremy Hall, assistant director of the dinner. “We are proud that people compliment not only the musical aspect of the dinner, but the food as well.”

The Royal Singers will perform madrigals and Christmas songs throughout the evening amid antics from the jester and a performance from the Southside Renaissance Club.

The event will be held at the Royal Castle in the Southside Middle School Cafetorium on Quail Lane. Seating will begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner served at 7. Advance tickets are required. Tickets are $18 each if purchased by Monday, and $20 after that date. They can be purchased by calling the Southside School Administration Building at (870) 251-2341 or by calling (870) 612-3678 or (870) 612-2846 in the evening.
