Several from ASU-Beebe honored at association’s fall conference

— Members of the Arkansas State University-Beebe alumni, faculty, staff and student body were recently honored at the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges fall conference in Hot Springs.

Amy Pettit was selected as the Academic All-star. She has leadership qualities that have had an enormous impact on ASU-Heber Springs. She is pursuing a degree in business management, with a goal to work as a grant writer for Arkansas State University.

As president of Rotaract, she has played an integral role in the development of the club for ASU-Beebe and has represented the college at a recent international conference.

Janet Liles, instructor for the pharmacy technician program, was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award. Liles envisioned and implemented the pharmacy technician program and gained national accreditation that met the American Society of Health System Pharmacists’ model curriculum. This approval makes the program the only nationally accredited pharmacy technician program in Arkansas.

Robin Hayes, director of admissions, was awarded the Outstanding Staff Award. Hayes has an outstanding professional reputation among admissions officers and high school counselors.

She is the driving force behind the significant advancements of the Admissions Office. Through her leadership, the staff has taken a new approach to recruitment, including a new marketing plan, student and parent orientations and data collection. Hayes inspires others through her student-focused leadership to strive toward excellence.

Garth Martin was awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award. Martin was born in 1930 in Austin, Ark.

After graduating as valedictorian at Beebe High School, he continued his education at Beebe Junior College (now ASU-Beebe), where he served as student body president. Martin furthered his education at Hendrix College.

Before retiring in 2002, he worked in the insurance industry for 50 years. Since retiring, Martin spends his time volunteering and traveling. Martin has served as a valuable part of the ASU-Beebe Development Council since 1996.
