Rig on I-40 hits, kills pedestrian

— Pulaski County officials are trying to identify a woman who died Thursday morning after she was struck by a tractor-trailer.

Coroner Garland Camper said the black woman, between 35 and 45 years old, was walking in and out of traffic along the median in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 just east of North Little Rock.

A firetruck swerved out of its lane to avoid hitting the woman as she walked along the road about 10:40 a.m., but the tractor-trailer following the firetruck did not swerve and struck the woman, officials said.

The woman was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center-North Little Rock, where she was pronounced dead at 11:18 a.m. from “multiple traumatic injuries,” Camper said.
