Wreaths, trees and plants are heart of Christmas decor

— Arkansas has gone from a horrid summer to a fantastically showy fall, and now the bright lights and festive decorations will keep the color coming, writes Janet Carson in Saturday’s HomeStyle section. From poinsettias to Christmas trees, amaryllis bulbs to fresh wreaths, there are many ways to add color to your home, or provide extra seasonal cheer with plants.

Decorating for the season is a time-honored tradition. Whether your family has a Christmas tree or menorah, or you turn the yard and home into a winter wonderland, plants are often a main component.

We all want our homes to look good, but it is also the season for giving and receiving. Foliage and color are involved whether you are taking care of your own Christmas tree, making a fresh wreath or choosing the right plant to give a friend. And if you have time, you can still plant winter flowers outdoors, such as pansies, violas, snapdragons and more, so that your color lasts long after the celebrations have ended.
