DOROTHY LOUISE ELKINS CLARK, age 84, of North LittleRock, Ark., peacefully went to her home in heaven on Friday, November 26. She was born November 23, 1926 to John and Marie Elkins.

She was an active memberof Gardner United Methodist Church and the Crusaders Bible Class. She cherished the time she spent as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis Elkins.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James (Jim) Clark; children, Ron of Sherwood, Steve (Barbra) of Springdale, and Melissa Barber (David) of North Little Rock; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Johnston of California; and two special sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Stage of Conway and Esther Crawford of North Little Rock.

The home going celebration will be 11 a.m., Monday, November 29, at Gardner United Methodist Church, 1723 Schaer St., North Little Rock. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, November 28 at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock (501) 835-3515.

CLAUDIA E. COLE, age 85, of Sardis, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010. She and her late husband of 51 years, Deward Cole, owned and operated Cole’s Grocery in the East End Community for several years and later retired from the Landmark Pharmacy.

She was a member of the East Union Missionary BaptistChurch. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alma Crone, and two brothers, Dean and John Crone, all of the Sardis Community.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Deanna Cole of Sardis; a grandson, Grant Cole of Sardis; granddaughter, Brooke Williamson and husband, Brent of Benton; four great-granddaughters: Kallie, Claire, Camryn and Breanna. She is also survived by one sister, Faye Moren of Sardis and by three brothers, Jim Crone of Sardis, Ray Crone of Cabot and Bob Crone of Fort Worth, Texas.

A celebration of Claudia’s life will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 29, 2010 at East Union Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Roberts and Dr. Paul Carter officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery in the East End Community.

DAVID D. DAVIS, 47, of Little Rock, died November 23, 2010 athome. He was born October 28, 1963 to the late Richard and Bernice Patillo Davis.

He attended Little Rock Public Schools and graduated from Parkview High. He was employed with Montgomery Ward for 19 years as a sales associate and at Sami’s Mens Fashion. David later became a Funeral Director working for Ruffin and Jarrett Funeral Home and at the time of his death he was employed with Robinson Mortuary of Little Rock.

David was a longtime member of Gaines Street Baptist Church where he served as an Usher. He leaves to mourn, his daughter Shannon Davis, and son Darrien Brown; three sisters, Betty Moore, Clovie Davis and Doris Ferguson; four brothers, Nathaniel, Jimmy, Jefferson Davis and Gregory McFadden; four grandchildren, Darius, Victoria, Corey and Kelis; and a two very special cousins, LouEthel Nauden and Constance Brown.

The family would also like to acknowledge Melanie Elliott, Deborah Donahue, Jocelyn Dokes and Nedra Bush, all very special individuals in David’s transition.

NAN M. HYNUM, 75, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passedaway Thursday, November, 25th, 2010. She was born October 11th, 1935 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Ms. Hynum was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church, and she was avolunteer for several food pantries. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gus Hynum Sr.; and her grandson Josh Hynum.

Cherishing her memory are three sons and their spouses, Earl and Melissa Hynum, of North Little Rock, Leonard and Anita Hynum, of Beebe, Arkansas and Gus Hynum, Jr., of Jacksonville, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Krissy Hynum, Jennifer Hynum, and Matt Hynum, Jimmy Henderson, Robert Patterson, Christopher Patterson, and Tina Hicks; nine great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

LOVIE E. ROGERS was born April 4, 1923 in Holly Springs,Miss., to Charles and Geneva Howell. Lovie was the eldest of 11 siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, along with three children. Lovie fell asleep in deathon Nov. 21. She faithfully served Jehovah and neighbors at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Jacksonville.

Lovie leaves to cherish her memory: Johnnie Bradley of Jacksonville, Arthur Rogers Jr. (Vernola) of Forrest City, Mary Rogers and Evarn Hutchins of Little Rock. She also leaves a host of grand-, great- and greatgreat grandchildren, along with many other relatives both fleshlyand spiritual.

MARTHA PRIESTER SHEPHERD, 69, of Mabelvale passedaway Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010. She was born Oct. 1, 1941, in Sheldon, S.C., to the late John Hugh Priester and the late Mildred Gatch Piester. She is preceded in death by herhusband, Paul Edward Shepherd Sr.

Martha was retired from the Little Rock School District as a cafeteria manager. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend and was strong in her Christian faith. She was not defined by what she did but by who she was to so many friends and family who loved her.

Martha is survived by two children, Paul Edward Shepherd Jr. (Marcia) of Lowell, Mass., and Paula Shepherd Beasse (Chris) of Mabelvale; one grandson, Logan; one sister, Nelmays Priester Connelly; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

The family wishes a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Little Rock Hematology and Oncology Clinic. The love you gave us during Mom’s treatments did not go unnoticed. Under the care of Dr. Mendelsohn for several years, he reminded her that God was her Great Physician during her many years battling cancer. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Lee Walker and Dr. Shane Kimball. You called Mom a miracle in how she fought her illnesses with candor and unending strength.

VERA E. TAYLOR, 87, of Little Rock went to be with the LordWednesday, Nov. 24, 2010. She was born Oct. 17, 1923, at Kensett, Ark., to Will and Aurilla Purcell. She married John D. Taylor on July 12, 1943. She was a member of CentralChurch of Christ, a founding member of Metropolitan Lioness Club, and an active member holding many offices, serving in many capacities at Pulaski Heights Lions Club. She was coowner of Major Welding Supply Incorporated.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brothers, Bill, L.E., John, Max, George and Jim Purcell.

Survivors include her children, Pat Bona (James), Jimmy Taylor (Tram), Debby Caudle (Bryce) and Rilla Kay Mays; grandchildren, Jimmy Bona, Brian Caudle (Laurie Boyd), Crystal Caudle Young (Willie), Justin Taylor, John Tyler Mays and Erin Taylor Mays; great-grandchildren, Madison Bona, Jay Bona and Liam Young; also many nieces and nephews. She leaves a legacy of love and followed the example of Christ with her tireless and unselfish devotion to her family and others.

MARY LEE WARREN, age 69, of Little Rock was born Feb. 10,1941, in Earle, Ark. She made her transition at home surrounded by her loved ones on Nov. 22, 2010.

AUGUSTA - Bonnie Jean (Terrell) Caldwell, age 81, of Augusta passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23. Bonnie was born April 18, 1929, in Waskawass, Mo., to Harry Thomas and Elizabeth Ann (Reed) Melikian. She loved to spend time with family and friends, loved to go to Wal-Mart and to shop, loved talking on the phone and was a workaholic.

She was a member of the FirstBaptist Church in Augusta. Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, five brothers and one son, Raymond Puckett.

She is survived by her husband of 25years, Ralph Caldwell; one son, Tom Puckett, North Little Rock; five daughters, Carolyn Carey, Little Rock, Bonnie Bright (Bill), Benton, Mary Cope (Jim), Elkins, Jean Geyer (Jerry), Prairie Grove, Belinda Shaw (Jim), Sherwood; one daughter-in-law, Mary Puckett, Knoxville, Tenn.; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two “adopted children” (dogs) who were spoiled rotten, Pepe and Molly; and a host of friends.

DUMAS - Karl Franklin “Frankie” Holthoff, 63, Dumas, Ark., died Nov. 26, 2010, Little Rock, Ark. He was born Sept. 4, 1947, Pine Bluff, Ark., to the late Howard Lee and Marion Virginia Matthews Holthoff.

Frankie was a Farmer/Rancher in Gould, graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in animal husbandry, and was President of the Polled Hereford Association in 1978. Two brothers, Howard M. “Corky” Holthoff, Fayetteville, Ark., and David M. Holthoff, Dumas, Ark., survive him.

MARSHALL - Kenneth Newell Hubbard Sr., age 94, of Marshallpassed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Highland Court Resident Care Facility. He was born in Western Grove, Ark., on Sept. 7, 1916, to Ed and Cora Melissa (Dozier) Hubbard.

Mr. Hubbard was a veteran of the United States Army. He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Marshall. He spent his years as a cattleman and a businessman. He was a member of the Marshall Rotary Club. He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna (Barnett) Hubbard.

Survivors include Dr. Kenneth Hubbard and wife Sharon of Harrison, Ark., Edna Jean Treat and husband Jack of Marshall, Ark., Janet Rainbolt and husband Kenneth of Marshall, Ark., Kathryn Treat and husband Charles of Springdale, Ark.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Hughlin Hubbard of California.

STUTTGART - Ledia Ware Harkness, 1907-2010. Mother departed this world for her heavenly home Nov. 26, 2010.

Ledia Ware Harkness wasborn in 1907 in Lewisville, Ark., to William and Ledia Chauvet Ware, one of Stuttgart’s earliest settlers. Ledia was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Stuttgart High School at the age of 17 and began her teaching career many years before receiving her degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway. Ledia taught at Julia Shannon Elementary School the first year it opened and later at Stillwell and Goldman, then back to Julia Shannon until retirement. During that time she was able to touch so many young lives, and most rewarding in the later years were the visits from former students.

Mother remained brilliantly sharp, she enjoyed Bridge and was an avid reader and loved working in her yard. Mother was the oldest member of First Baptist Church. She celebrated her 103rd birthday in January.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Robert Tuttle; three granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa and Kervin Lewis, Leslie and Martin Alonso and Ledia and Bill Tarazewich; and six great-grandchildren, Kyle, Leigh and Ben Alonso, Luke, Tess and Trey Tarazewich, all from Dallas; and mother’s very best longtime friend, Viola Peacock.

We wish to express appreciation to Linda Lyons for her many years of tender care for both mother and Linda and to Connie McCarty and Becky Lepine for their countless house calls. Mother loved you.

STUTTGART - A good and faithful servant was called home. Herbert Henry Lunday was born July 8, 1924, in Des Arc, Ark. He died Nov. 25, 2010, in Stuttgart, Ark., where he had resided for the past several years. He lived most of his life in Augusta. He was a Christian and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta.

He also leaves three children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: son Herbert and wife Mary Beth Lunday of West Plains, Mo., and their son Aaron and wife Kimberly Lunday of Rogersville, Mo.; daughter Carol and husband Jerry Smith of Stuttgart, Ark., their daughter DeAnne and husband Chris Dickson and children Kaylee and Dee Dickson, and their son Jason and wife Cheryl Smith and children Jaycie and Jonathan Smith, all of Stuttgart; and son, Larry and wife Evelyn Lunday of Searcy, and their son Jon Lunday of Pangburn and his fiancee, Shelly Hamrick of Quitman, Texas, anddaughter Lori Lunday of Searcy. He is also survived by a brother, Emmett Lunday and wife Ruth of Lubbock, Texas.

In his childhood, Herbert felt the hardships of the Great Depression. In early adulthood, he endured the horrors of World War II. Life challenges not withstanding, he returned from the war, rolled up his sleeves and went to work. In doing so, he took a giant step out of poverty for himself and his family and ultimately enabled his children and their children to reach a far better life. Herbert was a talented craftsman and a highly respected community member. Even today, it remains a mark of considerable distinction to live in a home built by Herbert Lunday. He loved the outdoors and cherished time spent with his many friends. He was the last survivor of the original Buckeye Deer Camp.

Herbert H. Lunday was a gentle, kind, patient, generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He left his world a far better place.

VILONIA - In loving memory of Carolyn Jean Landrum, 72, ofVilonia passed away on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband, Sammy H. Landrum Sr.

WARD - Bill J. McWhirt, 68, of Ward, Ark., died Tuesday, Nov.23, 2010. He was born April 27, 1942, to the late Harry and Helen Patricia Bendure McWhirt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa McWhirt.

Bill was a volunteer fireman in Kansas for 10 years. He worked as a carman for Katy Railroad in Parsons, Kan., and went on to work for Union Pacific for 37 years. He was a member of Faith Christian Center Church in Jacksonville and enjoyed woodworking, “playing in the dirt” as a farmer, raising cattle and coaching children in various sports. Bill was an exemplary husband and father.

He is survived by his wife Wanda McWhirt of Ward; five children, Michael McWhirt of Pittsburg, Kan., Sherri Cole (Ed) of Chanute, Kan., Patrick McWhirt (Lauri) of Springfield, Mo., Troy Mornoski McWhirt of Ward and Terrence McWhirt of Webb City, Mo.; one sister, Jan Harding (Doug) of Erie, Kan.; two brothers, Don McWhirt (Dawn) of Lowndesboro, Ala., and Bob McWhirt (Linda) of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Ryan Collins, Amanda Bancroft, Trentton Collins, Ashleigh Whetzell (Duke Turner), Chloe McWhirt, Ian McWhirt, Naomi Mornoskiand Wyatt Mornoski; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Faith Christian Center Church in Jacksonville with Pastor Gene Gilliam officiating.
