Texarkana earns trip to 6A title game

— Texarkana scored 29 of their 42 points in the second half - 22 in the final quarter - en route to a stunning 42-28 victory over Pine Bluff on Friday night at Jordan Stadium.

The Razorbacks (7-6) earned a spot in next Saturday’s Class 6A state championship game in Little Rock, where they will meet defending state champion and 6A-South rival El Dorado.

Greg Milhorn scored the go-ahead touchdown when he snared an 11-yard pass from senior quarterback Kierra Harris with 3:34 left in the third quarter for a 22-20 lead.

Harris completed 10 of 18 for 122 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also ran for 107 yards on 13 carries, including a 34-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

But with more than a full quarter left, it seemed to be too much time for favored Pine Bluff to work with.

Credit the Texarkana defense for rising to the challenge.

Aided by an illegal procedure penalty on the Zebras’ first play after the kickoff, the Razorbacks forced Pine Bluff to a three-and-out after the Zebras ran the ball on three consecutive plays.

Given a short field to operate from after a 30-yard Zebras’ punt, Harris found Milhorn for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Milhorn also caught the two-point conversion pass, giving the Razorbacks a 28-22 lead.

But Hunt tied the game 28-28 with his fourth touchdown.

Texarkana responded with a pass from Harris to Chris Stewart to make the score 35-28 in favor of the Razorbacks.

After Charles Hillis stopped Hunt twice to force the Zebras to turn it over on downs, Ke’Darrius Grissom sealed the Texarkana victory with a 62-yard touchdown run.
