Family Movie

Children’s Choir

BENTON/BRYANT — The Saline County Library will feature musical performances by the Central Arkansas Children’s Choir at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mabel Boswell Memorial Library in Bryant and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton. Both events are part of the 2010 Get Tuned in at Your Library concert series and are open to the public. The select group is under the direction of Ryan Fisher, University of Central Arkansas choral music education professor. He is assisted by Paige Rose, UCA instrumental music education professor, and Bart Dooley, music specialist at Ida Burns Elementary School in Conway. The Central Arkansas Children’s Choir is an auditioned choral program for fourth- through eighth-graders. For more information regarding the performances, call (501) 778-4766.

Federal Employees Meeting

BENTON — National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1256 of Benton will meet at 11 a.m. at Western Sizzlin in Benton. New officers will be inducted. During December, the chapter will take up a collection for Alzheimer’s research. NARFE has been working with the Alzheimer’s Association for 25 years to support research into the cause, prevention, treatment of and cure for this disease. All members are encouraged to attend and bring a friend.

Genealogical Society Meeting

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Gordon Bard, a member of the Village Genealogical Society, will present “Sharing Your Family Story” to the society. He will display some of the earlier methods of sharing family history and more traditional forms, and finally will demonstrate the use of digitization and computerization for sharing family history. The meeting, plus food and fellowship, will be held at the group’s annual Christmas party. The society meets at 2 p.m. the first Thursday of each month (except July and August) at the Coronado Community Center. Anyone interested in family research is welcome to attend. Creative Writing

SATURDAY

Christmas Celebration

SHERIDAN — The Grant County Chamber of Commerce and Down Home Sheridan have teamed up to present the annual downtown Christmas celebration. “Down Home Christmas on the Square” will kick off with the second annual Heel the Soul Race, followed by the Christmas parade. Local businesses and restaurants will be open to provide shopping and dining opportunities. Activities will be available to children of all ages, including pictures with Santa, storytelling, drawings for door prizes from individual merchants and gift certificates from Down Home Sheridan, presentations of Christmas music, refreshments and more. Holiday Concert

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Kiwanis Club of Hot Springs Village will present the Hot Springs Concert Band in a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village. The concert will celebrate the band’s 35th anniversary. Band director Craig Hamilton will be joined by a special guest soloist for the performance. Tickets are $10 each and are available from any band or Kiwanis member, as well at the Woodlands office.
