— Despite a lineup that included just eight players, Arkansas-Pine Bluff trailed by only two points at halftime against No. 12 Missouri on Sunday.

But the Tigers opened the second half on a 16-1 run that allowed them to coast to a 91-63 victory over the Golden Lions at Mizzou Arena.

Dominic Moore led UAPB (0-6) with a career-high 15 points with 11 rebounds and 4 assists. He played 26 minutes while center Terrell Kennedy (40 minutes) and guards Allen Smith (38) and Savalace Townsend (35) were on the floor virtually the entire game.

Kennedy, Smith, Townsend and Gavin Montgomery all scored 10 points. Kennedy also had 11 rebounds and four assists while he and Smith each made a pair of three-pointers.

UAPB made 47 percent of its field goals and 6 of 11 three-pointers in the first half, a shooting performance that helped it head into halftime trailing just 38-36.

But the Tigers’ run to start the second half was sparked by turnovers. UAPB committed 15 of its 26 turnovers in the second half as Missouri’s lead reached as many as 31 points.

“They did an outstanding job with pressure defense,” UAPB Coach George Ivory said. “I thought our guys definitely battled some fatigue.”

Laurence Bowers and Kim English each led the Tigers (5-0) with 18 points. Marcus Denmon added 12 and Michael Dixon scored 11 on 3 of 4 three-point shooting.

SMU 76, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 72

DALLAS - Robert Nyakundi scored a career-high 24 points and Papa Dia added 24 points and 10 rebounds as SMU held off Central Arkansas.

Justin Haynes added 12 points for the Mustangs (4-3), who have won four of their past five games.

Dewan Clayborn scored 15 points to lead the Bears (2-3) and Mike Pouncy added 12.

There were 13 ties and 13 lead changes in the game, including three of each in the final five minutes. Dia hit two free throws with 2:07 left to give SMU a 71-70 lead and the Mustangs, which shot 54 percent from the field, led the rest of the way.

The Bears trailed 37-32 at halftime, buthit four three-pointers early in the second half to take a 44-40 lead. UCA made a season-high 12 of 26 from three-point range and shot 48.3 percent overall.

Mark Rutledge had 11 points, including two three-pointers. TK Smith hit two of UCA’s three-pointers in the second half and finished with eight points.

The Bears are at Oklahoma State Wednesday.

STARKVILLE, Miss. - A 19-percent shooting performance helped contribute to Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s loss to Mississippi State on Sunday.

The Lady Lions (0-4) made just 9 of 48 shots against the Lady Bulldogs, who shot 52 percent and had four players score at least 11 points.

LaQuisha Slaton led UAPB with 10 points while leading scorer Jasmine Abrams was held to four points on 2 of 14 shooting.

Mary Kathryn Govero led Mississippi State (3-1) with 23 points, Diamber Johnson had 17, Ashley Brown scored 12 and Danielle Rector added 11.
