Jet lands in LR after engine problem

— An American Airlines jet carrying 171 people made an emergency landing at Little Rock National Airport, Adams Field, on Sunday morning after an “engine stall,” an airline spokesman said.

The Boeing 757, carrying 165 passengers and six crew members, landed without incident at the airport at 8:32 a.m., airport spokesman T.J. Williams said.

The plane was headed from Boston to Dallas when one of its two engines stalled, airline spokesman Billy Sanez said.

He described the problem as similar to a car’s backfire, and said it did not lose power.

As a precautionary measure, the pilot decided to land the airplane in Little Rock, Sanez said. A crew from Dallas was sent to inspect the airplane’s engine.

Meanwhile, a replacement plane, sent by the airline to take the passengers to their destination, left the Little Rock airport for Dallas at 2:30 p.m., Sanez said.

No flights at the Little Rock airport were disrupted, Williams said.
