A White House official says President Barack Obama is meeting with Walmart’s chief executive as part of his efforts to increase outreach to the business community.

Obama was scheduled to meet with Walmart CEO Mike Duke in the Oval Office Monday afternoon. The official said Obama and Duke were to discuss ways to spur job growth and encourage companies to invest in the United States.

Many in the private sector have pegged Obama as antibusiness. Following his party’s defeats in the midterm elections, Obama took some responsibility for the strained relationship and vowed to step up his outreach to the business world.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss the private meeting.
