Roof’s fall leaves thrift shop unsure

— The Salvation Army said it will be some time before it can reopen a Colorado thrift store after the roof collapsed.

No serious injuries were reported, even though 22 people were inside the Grand Junction store when the roof fell Friday. The cause is unknown.

Salvation Army officials told the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel they’ll clean up the exterior, but other work likely won’t happen until after Christmas. They said the staff is turning its attention to people who need food or toys for their families.

Salvation Army Capt. Dan Wilson said 800 people have already signed up for Christmas assistance.

After engineers assess the damage, the Salvation Army will decide whether to repair the structure or raze it and build another.
