Thurman to speak at NWA Tip-Off Club

Former Arkansas player Scotty Thurman will speak at Wednesday’s meeting of the Northwest Arkansas Tip-Off Club at the Springdale Holiday Inn.

Lunch registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Thurman, who starred on the Razorbacks’ 1994 national championship and 1995 runner-up teams, will speak at noon. Thurman is in his first season as director of student-athlete development for the Arkansas basketball team.

Lunch is $17 for members and $25 for non-members. Those who do not wish to eat may attend for $10.

JBU player earns conference mention

John Brown senior forward Sam Bartlett was named player of the week Monday by the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Bartlett had 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals in a 68-62 victory at Rogers State last week.

Ozarks women win at buzzer

Ozarks player Sabrina Goddard scored at the buzzer Monday for a 65-63 victory over Howard Payne (Texas) in Clarksville.

Goddard finished with 34 points. April Young added 14 points for Ozarks (6-0, 2-0 American Southwest Conference).

Harding women lose on road

Harding (3-2) lost to West Alabama 64-58 Monday in Livingston, Ala.

Harding shot 28 percent from the floor.

Forward Cherilyn McMenamy led Harding with 11 points. Sierra Rollins added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

BASEBALL

Ouachita signs two Arkansans

Ouachita Baptist Coach Chris Moddelmog has signed six players for the fall season, including Paragould’s Craig Daniell and Arkadelphia’s Kyle Brown of Arkansas.

Brown hit .480 for Three Rivers Community College in Missouri last season. Daniell is a left-handed pitcher who had a 1.11 ERA with 121 strikeouts his junior year.

Matt Balogh, Clayton Brandt, Jace Melby and Parker Norris also signed.
