TOP 25 MEN: Pullen leads Wildcats to victory

— Jacob Pullen broke the school record for career three-pointers, leading No. 5 Kansas State to an 85-61 victory over Division II Emporia State on Monday night.

The senior guard scored 20 points, hitting four three pointers, as the Wildcats jumped out to a 46-27 halftime lead. The Wildcats (6-1) cruised the rest of the way.

Pullen broke Steve Henson’s record of 240 career three-pointers.

Asprilla finished with 17 points and eight rebounds for Kansas State. Rodney Mc-Gruder also had 17 points.

Emporia State was led by Xavier Burnette’s 18 points.

WACO, Texas - LaceDarius Dunn had 20 points for while freshman Perry Jones had 16 points and 13 rebounds and the Bears beat Prairie View A&M.

Dunn hit a three-pointer on the first shot of the game and Baylor (5-0) never trailed.

Baylor improved to 38-0 against Southwestern Athletic Conference teams, 3-0 this season. The Bears have won 16 of those games by at least 30 points.

Trant Simpson had 10 points and was the only player with at least 10 for Prairie View A&M (1-7), which shot only 25 percent (15 of 59) and made only 3 of 17 three-pointers.

Dunn was 7 of 13 shooting with 3 three-pointers. Quincy Acy added 13points for Baylor and Nolan Dennis had 10.

VIRGINIA 87, NO. 15 MINNESOTA 79

MINNEAPOLIS - Mustapha Farrakhan scored a career-high 23 points and Mike Scott had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Virginia to a victory over Minnesota.

Joe Harris scored 24 points and the Cavaliers (4-3) made 10 of 13 threepointers to erase a 13-point first-half deficit and hand the Golden Gophers (6-1) their first loss of the season.

Trevor Mbakwe had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks for Minnesota. But the Gophers scored just two points during a seven-minute span of the second half and couldn’t complete a rally in the final five minutes.

Mbakwe’s put back cut Virginia’s lead to 73-67 with two minutes to play, but Scott responded with a three-point play to put the game out of reach.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN

CENTRAL ARKANSAS 69, LIPSCOMB 60

CONWAY - Central Arkansas used a 13-point halftime advantage to beat Lipscomb, despite losing the lead in the final six minutes.

With 5:49 left in the game, Lipscomb’s Anna Bowers tied the score at 51-51. Junior guard Sidney Stewart shot two three-pointers to reclaim a lead that the Sugar Bears kept.

UCA sophomore forward Megan Herbert had a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds. It was Herbert’s third consecutive game with at least 10 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman center Courtney Duever added 13 points, her most for UCA.

UCA had a 22-2 advantage in the lane against Lipscomb, which shot just 17 percent from inside the three-point arc. UCA shot 40.7 percent from the floor.

It was the first victory for UCA in four meetings against Lipscomb.
