Harding removes Susan G. Koman merchandise

— Harding University in Searcy has stopped selling Susan G. Komen for the Cure merchandise in the campus bookstore.

Harding spokesman David Crouch told The Daily Citizen that the decision was made by university vice president Mel Sansom because of the Komen organization’s support of Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood is a leading provider of abortions. Harding is a private Christian university affiliated with the churches of Christ.

The Komen organization supports breast cancer research and has about 125 affiliates.

Spokesman John Hammarley said no money from the national organization or the Arkansas affiliate goes to Planned Parenthood. He said about 20 other Komen affiliates provide funding to Planned Parenthood to support breast health.
