Memorial for soldier slain in Somalia to be rededicated

— A North Little Rock memorial for a local soldier who was killed in Somalia in 1993 will be rededicated Friday after construction forced it to be moved.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Donovan L. “Bull” Briley was killed Oct. 3, 1993 when his helicopter went down during the Battle of Mogadishu. The story was later depicted in the book and movie "Blackhawk Down."

A memorial for Briley was originally erected west of Military Drive near Donovan Briley Blvd. But an upgrade to Camp Joseph T. Robinson's entry control points necessitated Military Drive shifting to the west and the monument moving just outside the main gate's visitor's center.

The rededication ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m.
