Conway man accused of child abuse

— A Conway man was arrested Sunday night on accusations he physically abused his two-year-old nephew, causing injuries that required hospitalization.

Willie Lockett Jr., 21, is charged with first-degree battery in the assault, which reportedly caused substantial bruising to the boy's face, arms, legs and buttocks.

Authorities were called about 9:30 p.m. to 1290 East German Lane, but Lockett was gone when they arrived, Conway Police Department Officer Chris Harris said. He was located and arrested in a nearby neighborhood after police set up a perimeter in the area.

Lockett was being held Monday morning at the Faulkner County Detention Center in lieu of a $60,000 bond.

The child was admitted to Arkansas Children's Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Harris said.

Lockett was recently released from prison, where he was serving time on an aggravated robbery conviction, Harris said. He had been living at his sister's home since his release.
