I-40 bridge over Mississippi could snarl traffic

Traffic on the east- and westbound lanes of the Interstate 40 bridge over the Mississippi River will be sectioned off to one lane beginning Tuesday and remain that way for as long as 10 weeks, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said.
A Memphis media outlet reported that the department is trying to reinforce the Hernando DeSoto bridge in case of an earthquake by putting in seismic expansion joints on the piers.
