LITTLE ROCK Administrators from universities in Norfolk, Va. and Jacksonville, Ala. have applied to become the president of Arkansas State University in the first week that the job has been advertised.
The search committee on Friday identified the first two candidates as Yatish T. Shah, the provost and chief operating officer at Norfolk State University, and Joe G. Delap, the associate vice president for academic affairs at Jacksonville State University.
New applicants will be announced each Friday, according to a news release.
An ad for the university president opening was placed in the latest edition of the nationally-circulated Chronicle of Higher Education and will be repeated in the Sept. 10 printing. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, though candidates are encouraged to apply by Oct. 15.
The presidential search advisory committee will review the first set of applications at its Sept. 30 meeting. The university board of trustees will ultimately make the decision on who to hire.
