Gov. Mike Beebe is pinning his re-election on the argument that Arkansas is weathering the economic downturn better than the rest of the country.
Beebe kicked off his fall re-election campaign on Tuesday standing next to a banner that touted 25,000 jobs his administration has announced during his time in office. Beebe also acknowledged that the state has lost thousands of jobs since he took office.
Beebe is a Democrat seeking a second term. He’s leading his Republican opponent, Jim Keet, in most polls and in fundraising for the November matchup.
Keet is a restaurant owner and state legislator. He’s argued that Beebe is glossing over the state’s problems and has accused the governor of being too closely allied with President Barack Obama.
